Estimating abundance in unmarked populations of Golden Eagle ( Aquila chrysaetos )

چکیده
Estimates of species abundance are key importance in population and ecosystem level research but can be hard to obtain. Study designs using camera traps increasingly being used for large-scale monitoring that elusive and/or occur naturally at low densities. Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is one such species, we investigate whether existing programs baited estimate the golden eagles, as an alternative traditional labour-intensive searches active territories nest sites during breeding period. The camera-trap data allowed two measures estimated within each four main study areas mid northern Norway; occupancy was measured probability site use, size number individuals a area. Spatial temporal patterns were explored evaluated against independent estimates pair density areas. Annual showed precision, while more precise relation both anticipated fluctuations. may therefore suitable within-study area trends, seem unsuitable eagles. Across areas, average from consistent with spatial pattern densities (r = 0.99, r 0.89, respectively). This suggests camera-trap-based density, reflect territory large scales. In conclusion, our results suggest cost-effective strategy

متن کاملSurgical treatment of bumblefoot in a captive golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos)
The golden eagle is one of the world's largest living birds. Footpad dermatitis, also known as plantar pododermatitis or bumblefoot, is a condition characterized by lesions due to contact with unhealthy "perching" conditions, such as plastic perches, sharp-cornered perches on the ventral footpad of birds. A young female golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) in Fars province of Iran was presented to ...

متن کاملReliability of Occupancy and Binomial Mixture Models for Estimating Abundance of Golden-cheeked Warblers (setophaga Chrysoparia)
—Reliable estimates of population parameters derived from survey methods are essential for decision making in management of endangered species. We evaluated whether point-count surveys used in conjunction with occupancy and binomial mixture models (BMMs) constituted a reliable approach for monitoring the federally endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler (Setophaga chrysoparia) on a preserve in centra...
متن کاملInference about density and temporary emigration in unmarked populations.
Few species are distributed uniformly in space, and populations of mobile organisms are rarely closed with respect to movement, yet many models of density rely upon these assumptions. We present a hierarchical model allowing inference about the density of unmarked populations subject to temporary emigration and imperfect detection. The model can be fit to data collected using a variety of stand...
